Parameters of writing module in IELTS

What actually a Writing module is ?

Firstly, it consist of further two parts that are Task-1 and Task-2

Parameters, on the behalf of those our writing module is given a band score. All of them are given below: 

1.Task Achievement (for Task 1)
2.Task Response (for Task 2) 
3.Coherence & Cohesion
4.Lexical Resource
5.Grammatical Range & Accuracy.

Task achievement  basically examines the overview and information that you provide, details of your content and the accuracy with which you have mentioned key features and illustrations.
You are supposed to write 150 words for Task 1. Else there will be penalty for under word count. 

Task Response, in this criterion, the type of response that you write for the essay type question is determined. It assesses the main idea of your essay and the way you develop it with relative examples.
You are supposed to write 250 words for Task 2. Otherwise you will be penalized for under word count. To avoid such problems, you must learn how the examiner counts your word and how many words you must write.

Your information organisation reveals Coherence & Cohesion, paragraphing skills and use of proper lexical devices (for example, connectors, conjunctions) is determined. Number of paragraphs are also taken into consideration. Dividing your essay into more or less paragraphs might lower your score.

Lexical Resource use of sufficient range of vocabulary, proper spellings, correct implementation of collocations and word formation are taken care of while scoring this criterion. You must avoid using wrong words and informal language.

To score in writing, the Grammatical Range & Accuracy play an indispensable role, things taken into consideration include sentence structures, proper use of tenses, putting right punctuation, use of simple as well as complex statements with clear idea and control over Grammar.

There are some other intensive suggestions for good band scores:
  • Relevant ideas and sure short examples can be shared only ( remember, little knowledge is dangerous).
  •   Avoid using pre-prepared formats, decide formats won't let you to achieve more.
  • Do no write wordy sentences just to reach given word limit.

The given line chart depicts information regarding the swapped figures of offences  taken place in New Port city center in a decade. In 2003, burglary cases noticed as the top most offence at 3500 approximately which then rose to  3700 in 2004. An instant decline in burglar cases  folded  to one-third (1200) and stayed almost same in next four years which counted at 1400 in 2012. However, the offences of robbery were 600 in the beginning of decade and its figures fluctuated slightly with similar number of cases till 2012. Whereas, 2700 cases registered for stolen cars in 2003 and remained same till 2005. A swift decline to the number of auto theft offences were 2100 in 2005. An unorder pattern seen in next couple of years , which stood at 2400 in the end of that decade. In conclusion, burglar cases had  lessened; whereas, offences of stolen cars and robbery stabled will the similar figures in all ten years.

The maps below show the town of Langley in 1910 and 1950. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given maps depict the changes that occurred in the town of Langley and how it was in the past years.  In 1910, on both sides of Jordan Street, there were few small houses. The same street towards the south was facing the railway lines just beside the cottages for railway employees as well as wasteland. Sherman Street was surrounded by houses and ended at the cafe opposing store and laundry buildings. In the north side, there was a factory on the right of another wasteland. Forty years later, most of the Sherman street area was replaced by a new park having particular playing area for children. The  Factory was diminished and new buildings were constructed named as Sherman Mansions. Laundry and Cafe relocated to the wasteland area near mansions. A new lane was built with multiple stores where there were railway cottages years before. Some people think it is more important to plant more tree in open areas in towns and cities than provide more housing. To what extent do you agree or disagree.

Since the beginning, trees have furnished us with two of life’s essentials that are food and oxygen. I agree to point that plantation is necessary which enhances the quality of life, but, shelters must be given some priority as it is also our basic necessity.  Letting trees to own open areas for them is an intensive change today's environment needs. They are contributing our nature by improving air quality, preserving soil and supporting wildlife; moreover, human life directly depends on these things. Deforestation done from past years lead to bad weather conditions and its dramatic nature, due to which inhabitants again want a healthy life. A best peaceful life is only possible when we are surrounded by trees which also gives us positive vibes that can not be taken using artificial methods.
